Us...
The Utica High School Class of 1971 helped transition North Fork Schools from the turbulent 1960's (Vietnam War, Moon Landing, Assasinations & Protests) to the Love generation of the 1970's (Can't we all just get along?, Watergate, Disco music, and the Bi-Centenial). Anyone associated with the school in those days saw a diverse class of kids struggling to find there identity in our quest to "do our own thing" (a left over term from the 60's).
We were the last Jr. High Class to occupy the Mill Street Jr. High school (our 7th grade year) and the first Jr. High class to occupy the Jr. High School on the hill (our 8th grade year). While the people who new us while we were in school have differing views, opinions and recollections of "The Class of 1971" I think most will agree that we have a special character that sets us a little bit apart from the other classes. We relish to this day our unique identity.
We have a wide range of diverse classmate personalities that are still living around Utica and are involved in the community today. While many of our members live far and wide you could take a picture of our class members into the community today and the Utica, Ohio residents would recognize a number of us. One comment you might here would be "All of these people graduated the same year?" We are pretty well known!
All class members & visiting parties are invited to leave a memory regarding the UHS Class of 1971 on our message board. The first ten entries were from a Utica Herald article from 1971.
